Being a stray dog is a very rough existence. It gets even more difficult when the dog happens to be a mother.
Caring for puppies while also living on the streets is such a monumental task, and one female pit bull was a stray living in an abandoned home with her puppies when she was rescued by the Stray Rescue of St. Louis.

It was fortunate that she was found by the rescue as well, as she was struggling to keep her puppies warm amid the freezing temperatures. It was quite sad.
But, given the threat that the cold posed to the dogs, the chief life-saving officer at Stray Rescue of St. Louis, Donna Lochmann, knew that it was imperative that they get the mother dog and her babies to safety.

As shared by The Dodo, the poor puppies were so cold that they were shaking when they were found. However, getting to the puppies was going to be a bit of a challenge as their mother was quite protective of her little pups and didn’t want anyone getting too close.
In fact, at first, she gave Donna a warning growl. Eventually, Donna was able to convince the mother to trust her by imploring lots of patience and some yummy sausages. And it worked!

She finally allowed Donna to get a leash on her and collect her puppies. The little family got warmed up and taken back to the shelter where they were cared for by staff.
