Starfish was surrendered to a rural shelter with little hope of surviving the week. Her back-end was paralyzed from an untreated injury and her family abandoned her at the shelter. She did not let her painful past change her sweet demeanor. A rescue stepped up to save her and then a miracle happened.
Second Chance Rescue saved Starfish and raised funds to send her to a specialist. The loving Golden Retriever went to Georgia for rehabilitation at Lake Hartwell Hospital with Dr. Terry. Jennifer Brooks, president of Second Chance Rescue, told us, “We are so thrilled to share with you that Starfish’s rehabilitation is working and she will walk again!”

Starfish ditched her wheels and decided to walk all on her own. It is a miracle that is a product of hard work and loving people refusing to give up. Not to mention, Starfish’s determination and willing attitude. She still has a ways to go with physical therapy, but she is making huge strides. While at rehabilitation, Starfish has made a new best friend named Henna, who is also recovering from a spinal injury.

“The look in Starfish’s eyes said it all. She spoke to us; the compassion in our hearts and we knew she was worth every ounce of risk that it may take to give her a second chance,” said Jennifer.

Everyone at Second Chance Rescue is thrilled by Starfish’s progress and are happy to report that she has a forever home waiting for her. Once she completes her rehabilitation in February, she will go to a loving home. The rescue received so many applications and were touched by all the compassionate people that offered to adopt Starfish. “Looking ahead in gratitude and letting go in peace.” There are still many others looking for a home, so please adopt!
