The volunteers from Stray Rescue of St. Louis came upon a stray, white mother dog who was living on the side of the road. They were able to determine that she had just recently given birth since she was bloated with milk and was wandering about in search of nourishment.
They were close behind her when they heard a high-pitched scream from behind.
Upon further investigation, they found that one of her babies had gotten itself stuck in a hole after falling down one of her holes. Those who came to help removed the dog from the water as quickly as they could and placed her in their vehicle.
They went farther into the forest, and once they were there, they saw numerous more pups scurrying about in the underbrush and realized that they needed to save them.
When it was finally time to save the mother, something else took occurred in the meanwhile. Yet another mother?
They saw another female dog near to the location of the mother and realized they had to save her as well since she was in danger.
However, the mother dog did not make things simple for them by continually evading their traps.
They attempted to find her for many days until they came up with a plan that would assist them in finding her for good.

It is a tremendous comfort to watch rescue workers make the additional effort necessary to save this family.
